EMERGENCY IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE MANAGEMENT: CHILDHOOD OBESITY

Abstract
Food and beverage business; are the enterprises that meet the food and beverage needs of the people with the equipment and service quality it possesses. It not only meets the needs of food and beverage, but also allows people to come together for social purposes such as banquets, celebrations and meetings. In this sense, it is not only a place where hunger and thirst are removed, but it has gained a rested and moral function. The main purpose of a customer who comes to the food and beverage business is to feed him. Fast food businesses are also commercial enterprises within the food and beverage businesses. However, fast food habit should be considered as an important health problem that is starting to affect the whole world in terms of health. Because this problem may cause many diseases in the future such as obesity, heart diseases and diabetes. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines overweight and obesity as healthdamaging and abnormal and excessive fat accumulation, and sees childhood obesity as one of the most important public health problems of the 21st century. Childhood obesity affects the urban areas of low- and middle-income countries globally, and its frequency increases alarmingly. Obesity poses important problems for human health both in childhood and adulthood. The prevalence of obesity in childhood poses a significant public health problem in developed countries and developing countries, increasing the burden of noncommunicable chronic diseases. Obesity, which needs to be taken into consideration because it causes hypertension, fat metabolism disorders, insulin resistance and severe psychological problems, is seen with increasing frequency in childhood. In studies conducted in developed countries, 33% of adults and 20-27% of children and adolescents are obese. Obesity, overweight and obesity-related diseases can be largely prevented. Childhood obesity is one of the health problems that should be given priority because it is common, has serious consequences and is preventable. In this study, it is aimed to draw attention to childhood obesity which constitutes a serious danger in food and beverage establishments and is an important preventable health problem.
