Abstract

Covid-19, also known as the spread of coronavirus in Turkey, including education has influenced every aspect of human life significantly. The alarming spread of the virus has forced educational institutions to shut down. In order to reduce the impact, educational institutions have developed training methods in different contexts with a variety of options for students, teachers, administrators and parents, depending on both material and human resources. With these methods, the Ministry of National Education has created some innovative technologies (for example, digital and mobile technologies such as EBA TV and television broadcasts) to ensure that students do not leave school lessons during the Covid-19 process and to ensure the continuity of education. Since distance education is dependent on technological facilities including internet and Wi-Fi, disruptions in their accessibility and use cause differences in service quality in education. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the distance education service quality from the perspective of teachers in the shadow of Covid-19. In the study, a structured interview form prepared on the basis of the SERVQUAL scale developed by Parasuraman et al. (1988) was used in order to determine the quality of distance education provided by high school teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic process. The data were obtained by phone calls between 10-25 May 2020 with ten teachers who provide education and training services in Vocational and Technical Anatolian High Schools in the province of Yozgat. According to the findings, it was concluded that in the distance education system in general, teachers consider themselves competent and try to provide a quality education service by making special efforts to their application participation, but they have difficulties in some systemic technical issues and evaluation feedback.
