Abstract

Human capital plays a crucial role in the economic development of countries and their ability to establish sustainable business structures. This is because creating sustainable and growth-oriented businesses is vital for national economic advancement. Developing such businesses and enabling them to take active roles in the national economy relies heavily on a skilled and qualified workforce. Assessing the presence and quality of human capital at the national level—which holds a pivotal role in the future of businesses and, indirectly, of countries—and identifying the current state can provide valuable insights for both businesses and policymakers involved in human capital development.

This study evaluates the human capital of North Macedonia. First, the quantitative level of North Macedonia's human capital is examined. Assessments and relevant data are presented regarding the population of North Macedonia and the proportion of this population that can be considered human capital. These evaluations utilize data gathered from studies and assessments conducted by the Government of North Macedonia as well as other relevant institutions and organizations. The analyses were carried out using these secondary data.

Subsequently, the qualitative characteristics of North Macedonia's human capital were evaluated through the analysis of secondary data. In this context, data from the Government of North Macedonia and other relevant bodies were analyzed and utilized.

The findings indicate that the population level in North Macedonia is sufficient. However, it was determined that the education level of the young population in particular is low, and the quality of the education received is insufficient. Furthermore, it was observed that the youth face significant challenges, especially regarding access to education. On the other hand, the study reveals that the State of North Macedonia has developed and implemented substantial plans to resolve these issues in the aforementioned areas.

In conclusion, it can be stated that North Macedonia holds strong potential for development in the field of human capital and will easily be able to meet the workforce needs of existing enterprises as well as future investors in the near term.
