Climate Change and Tourism: The Case of Sivas Province

Abstract

Climate change and global warming are a common problem of the world. The negative effects of climate change on the tourism sector, which cause negative effects in many sectors, make tourism activities impossible. Climate change has become an important factor in tourists' choice of destinations, vacation durations and businesses. The biggest advantage in the fight against climate change and global warming is the creation of social awareness and the need to combat this problem in cooperation. The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of the local people residing in Sivas Central district towards climate change and tourism and to examine these perceptions with various variables. The questionnaire form used for this purpose was applied face-to-face with 502 people residing in Sivas Central district in November and December 2021, and the data obtained within the scope of the research were analyzed using the SPSS ver:22.0 program. In the evaluation of the survey data, parametric test assumptions were made by analyzing whether the climate change and tourism perception scale was statistically significant or not, whether it was suitable for normal distribution. In the analysis findings, it was concluded that the local people's perceptions of climate change and tourism are high.
