The Effect of Potential Tourist Candidates' Covid 19 Risk Perception on Behavioral Intention Towards Contactless Tourism

Abstract

The coronavirus (COVID-19), which emerged in 2019 and spread all over the world in 2020, has negatively affected almost all sectors. The tourism sector, which requires constant contact, travel and movement, is one of the sectors negatively affected due to the risk of transmission of the disease. Curfews, cancellation of domestic and international flights, travel restrictions, etc. With practices such as this, the tourism sector has come to a halt. For these reasons, it is predicted that a new era has begun in the tourism industry, and contactless electronic transactions, tours with social distance and isolated holidays will come to the fore. This study emphasizes contactless tourism, which has brought a new dimension to tourism of health-protective behaviors resulting from people's risk perception of COVID-19, and the risk perception arising from this disease. The population of the research consists of potential tourist candidates residing in Sivas province. In the study, the 24-item Contactless Tourism Opinion Survey, consisting of cognitive risk perception, emotional risk perception, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control and behavioral intention factors, was accessed online and administered to 573 potential tourist candidates. Results; It has been shown that people are generally worried about the COVID-19 epidemic and are seriously afraid of infecting themselves and their surroundings with this disease. Research participants' perception of cognitive risk and emotional risk had a significant impact on attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and behavioral intention, and also; It has been observed that men and women's cognitive risk, emotional risk and subjective norms differ. According to the marital status variable, significant differences were detected in cognitive risk perception, emotional risk perception, attitude, subjective norm and behavioral intention factors.
